Telangana: Youth booked in drunk-driving case dies by suicide in Choppadandi
A 28-year-old man from Choppadandi died by suicide after worrying about possible punishment and the fine in a drunk-driving case. Court proceedings were delayed, increasing his fear. Police have registered a case based on his mother's complaint and begun investigation
Karimnagar: Afraid of possible imprisonment by the court, a youngster booked in a drunk and drive case died by suicide in Choppadandi.
According to police, Sura Vijay Kumar (28), who was working at a chicken centre, was caught during a drunk and drive search operation and was asked to attend court on Friday.
As he reached the court late, he was told to return the next day. However, the matter was not taken up as the judge was on leave on Saturday, and he was informed by court staff to wait for a fresh summons.
Vijay Kumar discussed with his wife the difficulty of paying the fine if the court imposed a penalty. After lunch, he went into a room and died by suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan.
He is survived by his wife Priyanka, mother Nagamma and three daughters. Based on a complaint by his mother, police registered a case and began an investigation.
