Mahesh, a 25-year-old from Bhudidapadu, jumped into the Jurala project canal to avoid a rashly driven car that had collided with his bike. While his friend Janakiram sustained injuries, Mahesh is feared to have been swept away.
Jogulamba Gadwal: A 25-year-old youth, who jumped into the Jurala project downstream canal on Sunday evening to escape a car being driven rashly over the project bridge, is missing even after several hours.
The youth, identified as Mahesh from Bhudidapadu village in Manavapadu mandal, was riding a two-wheeler along with his friend Janakiram when the incident occurred around 7 pm. According to reports, a car travelling from Gadwal towards Atmakur hit their vehicle, which was moving in the opposite direction towards Gadwal.
The impact caused the bike to lose control, leaving Janakiram with head injuries. In an apparent attempt to avoid being hit, Mahesh jumped into the canal near the 53rd gate of the Jurala project.
Rescue teams reached the spot soon after and continued search operations on Monday morning. With a few gates of the project currently open, locals fear Mahesh may have been swept downstream.
Janakiram was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation.
