Hyderabad: Telangana’s Bhavani Kedia will represent India in the women’s tennis team at the 25th Summer Deaflympics, scheduled to be held in Tokyo from November 15 to 26.

The Summer Deaflympics, a globally recognised multi-sport event for deaf athletes, stands as one of the world’s most prestigious platforms promoting inclusivity, skill, and determination. Bhavani’s selection marks another milestone in her inspiring journey as an athlete who continues to overcome challenges with grit and passion.

Presently, Bhavani is undergoing intensive training at Value Lab Infra Pvt. Ltd. project under the guidance of M Vasudeva Reddy, a former Davis Cup player and renowned international tennis professional. Her preparations are focused on achieving peak performance and representing India with distinction on the world stage.

Bhavani, who had earlier represented India at the Deaflympics 2022 in Brazil, has consistently showcased her exceptional talent and determination. She was the first woman from Telangana to qualify for a tennis event at the Deaflympics, and her remarkable journey has been an inspiration to many young athletes across the country.

Born to Neeraj and Madhu Kedia, Bhavani’s journey to success has been one of immense perseverance. Despite facing hearing challenges since birth, her dedication, discipline, and passion for tennis have driven her to excel at both national and international levels. Over the years, she has bagged two silver medals in Singles and Mixed Doubles at the 23rd National Games for the Deaf (2019, Chennai) and represented India twice at the World Deaf Tennis Championships in Antalya (2018) and Turkey (2019).

Speaking about her selection, Bhavani expressed her excitement and gratitude, stating, “Representing India at the Deaflympics is a dream come true once again. I am thankful to my family, my coaches, and everyone who has believed in me. My goal this year is to give my best and bring glory to the nation.”

With her commitment, discipline, and relentless training, Bhavani Kedia continues to set an example of courage and excellence. Her participation in the 25th Summer Deaflympics 2025 symbolises not just individual achievement but also the growing recognition of differently-abled athletes in India’s sporting landscape.
