Khammam: The fever survey carried out in Telangana during the Covid second wave was model for the country and received accolades from Central agencies, stated Health and Finance Minister T Harish Rao.
The minister noted that many have suggested carrying out the fever survey across the country. He said the current fever survey in the State was completed in 29 districts. To date around 77,33,427 households surveyed. A second round of surveys has also begun in those districts.
Harish Rao along with Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar inaugurated an advanced Cath lab and Trauma Care Unit, Emergency Care Unit set up at the newly-constructed emergency medicine wing on the premises of Khammam District Headquarters Hospital with a cost of Rs 22 crore on Friday. They also inaugurated a breast milk bank at the Maternal and Child Health Care Centre at the hospital. It aims at catering to the needs of needy newborns by encouraging voluntary breast milk donation by lactating women.
Speaking on the occasion he revealed that the Cath lab in Khammam was the fourth one in the State and a Cath Lab would be set up in Adilabad soon. Cutting-edge medical services were being offered in the districts with high-density tribal populations.
Responding to a request from minister Ajay Kumar, Harish Rao assured to make chemotherapy and radiotherapy services available at the District Hospital. Heart operations would start soon in Khammam, he said adding an MRI facility would be set up in the next financial year.
The breast milk bank in Khammam was the second in the State after Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad. 100-bedded hospitals being set up at Madhira and Sattupalli would also be equipped with MRI facilities. Following the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s directions all the mortuaries in the State were being modernised. The mortuary in Khammam would also be modernised. Basti Dawakhanas would be set up in Khammam on the lines of Hyderabad, the Health Minister said.
Harish Rao revealed that as many 3,45,951 kits were provided to those with Covid symptoms during the fever survey. Around one crore home isolation kits were available. To handle the Covid third wave oxygen generation units have been set up in 86 hospitals.
The Health Minister stated that everyone should come forward and take part in the fever survey. Karimnagar holds the record for the fastest two doses of vaccination in South India. Khammam district ranks second with 94 percent vaccination, he said and congratulated district authorities.
MP Nama Nagaswara Rao, ZP Chairman K Kamal Raju, MLC Tata Madhusudan, MLAs K Upender Reddy, Ramulu Naik, TSMSIDC Chairman Errolla Srinivas, District Collector VP Gautham and others were present.
