Hyderabad: Telangana chess player Samhita won a bronze in the Asian Youth Online Chess Championship, conducted by the Asian Chess Federation in association with the All India Chess Federation, in the under-8 category on Saturday.
The seven-year-old Hyderabad chess player, who took to chess at the age of three, accumulated 7.5 points from nine rounds for the third-place finish. She drew with Iran’s Arshida Rastigar in the fourth round before losing to Tamil Nadu’s Ananya P Rajan of Tamil Nadu.
The youngster has been producing consistent performances. She won a silver medal in the under-7 girls national school chess championship and won a gold in under-7 Asian School chess competition. She then won a silver in under-8 category in the national chess championship.
