Hyderabad: A 27-year-old Telugu student, who had reached the United States just a month ago, was shot dead during a robbery in the store he was working in Alabama on Thursday.

According to media reports, the incident happened around 9.30 am (US time) on Thursday, with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office identifying the victim as Sri Satya Krishna Chitturi, apart from releasing pictures of the suspected assailant.


Reports said police responded at 9.45 am to the report of a robbery at the Crown service station on Old Birmingham Highway. When they arrived, they found Satya Krishna, who was working as a store clerk, unresponsive inside the store. Police said an undetermined amount of cash was also taken from the store by the suspect, a black male, whose details have been in police alerts asking for information on him.

According to a post on gofundme.com seeking donations for Satya Krishna, he was married and his wife was pregnant. The couple, hailing from Andhra Pradesh was expecting a baby soon and he had gone to the USA just about a month ago.

The post, put up by Sobhan Matta, sought donations to the family to get through the difficult time and to send the body to India. The donations so far have touched over $94,000 USD for the $1,00,000 goal.
