Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Tension prevailed briefly during a food security ration card distribution event in Asifabad on Thursday after Asifabad MLA Kova Lakshmi and Congress segment in-charge A Shyam Naik got into a heated exchange.
The incident occurred after Lakshmi took strong objection to alleged derogatory remarks made by Naik against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao during the programme. In a fit of anger, she hurled water bottles and a microphone at Naik, who was seated near her. The sudden outburst led to commotion at the venue, following which Lakshmi walked out. The programme, however, continued.
Addressing the gathering earlier, Lakshmi accused Naik of using the public event to criticise the policies introduced by KCR. She pointed out that Naik’s wife had twice been elected from the Khanapur Assembly constituency on a BRS ticket and termed him a “thankless person” for turning against Rao.
Followers of Naik objected to the MLA’s act and demanded action against her for the incident.
