Hyderabad: Tension gripped parts of Secunderabad including RTC ‘X’ roads and surroundings on Thursday as the BRS staged its protest rally, ‘Chalo Bus Bhavan’, against the State government.
The protest, aimed at highlighting issues concerning Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), triggered chaos and clashes at several points around RTC X roads and Bus Bhavan.
BRS leaders including K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and T. Padma Rao Goud reached the Bus Bhavan premises despite heavy police deployment.
However, police allowed only a few senior leaders inside, while many party workers were stopped at RTC ‘x’ roads, leading to heated arguments and scuffles between activists and police personnel.
Several workers were detained and taken into custody.
Earlier in the day, police had placed many BRS leaders under house arrest to prevent them from joining the rally, but some managed to slip through.
KT Rama Rao reached Rathifile Bus Stand, from where he travelled to RTC ‘X’ roads in a RTC bus. He was accompanied by Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Padma Rao Goud.
Hyderabad Police imposed strict restrictions around RTC Cross Roads, closing key approach routes from Ashok Nagar, Narayanaguda, Musheerabad, and Vidyanagar. Barricades were set up at several points, effectively sealing off the area.
The entire RTC ‘X’ roads- Chikkadpally – Musheerabad stretch was placed under high alert, with additional police platoons deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
The BRS leaders have condemned the police action, accusing the government of curbing democratic protests.
