Hyderabad: Tensions flared up in Hyderabad late on Sunday night as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) began removing flexi banners and flags put up by BRS leaders and supporters to mark the birthday of former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao. The Congress government had reportedly issued special orders for their removal, triggering protests from BRS ranks.
On Monday too, across the city, GHMC staff including Disaster Response Force personnel, dismantled flexis erected by BRS cadre, while BRS leaders alleged selective action, claiming that banners and posters of other party leaders remained untouched. In several areas, party workers obstructed municipal staff, leading to heated exchanges and tense situations.
GHMC officials maintained that they were acting on government directives and urged BRS workers not to interfere with their duties. However, the removals continued to spark outrage among Chandrashekhar Rao’s supporters. Videos pertaining to heated exchanges between the BRS leaders and GHMC staff went viral on social media, with netizens questioning the selective action.
