Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed in view of the Osmania University bandh call given by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in protest of the university administration decision to ban protests on the campus. Several leaders and protestors were taken into custody on Monday.

The ABVP student activists protested on the campus, burning the circular copies issued by the administration at Arts College here on Sunday. They alleged that the circular to impose a ban on protests was undemocratic and reflected the dictatorship attitude of the Vice Chancellor.

Since the morning, the Osmania University police have been detaining several ABVP leaders as preventive measures and protesters who gathered in protest on the campus. They were shifted to the OU police station.

The circular was a conspiracy to curtail students from raising their voice against lack of funds, faculty recruitment, quality education and substandard food, the protestors had alleged. The ABVP said that if the university does not revoke the circular by Monday, it would call for a ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest.
