Hyderabad: Commotion broke out during the Musi River Development Company Limited (MRDCL) meeting held at the MRO office, Gandipet in Rajendranagar, on Tuesday, over land acquisition for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, with residents boycotting the proceedings.

MRDCL officials had invited representatives from RWAs of Shivpuri, Dattatreya Colony, Sri Vigneshwara Colony, Dream Homes, Karywell Homes, PG Colony, Vishal Nagar and Sairam Nagar and Madhu Park Ridge (MPR) Apartments to the meeting to discuss the land acquisition matter. Around 250 residents from these colonies arrived at the MRO office at around 11 am.

Trouble began when MRDCL officials explained the land acquisition plan for the proposed Musi Project and residents opposed the move, saying they were not willing to give up their properties. A heated argument broke out between officials and residents over the issue of being invited to the meeting without proper information and notice and inviting the MEINHARDT Consultancy team, which prepared the DPR of the Musi Project.

The general secretary of the Citizens Alliance for Residents Rights, Sustainable & Inclusive River Development (CARRSIRD) Association, Vishalakshi, told ‘Telangana Today’, “We told them that many people carried out construction with official sanction, took loans and built their houses using their lifelong savings. The proposal to acquire only 10 per cent of the land is unacceptable because the 10 per cent included people’s homes, assets and lifelong earnings.”

After a two-hour-long protest held at the MRO office and the residents boycotted the meeting, she said.
