Tension mounts at Gandipet MRO office as Madhu Park Ridge residents protest Musi River land acquisition

Residents of Madhu Park Ridge and neighbouring colonies staged a protest at the Gandipet MRO office in Rajendranagar against land acquisition for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, rejecting compensation offers and refusing to part with their properties.

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at the Gandipet MRO office in Rajendranagar as Madhu Park Ridge (MPR) residents opposed the land acquisition process for the Musi Riverfront Development project.

The MPR residents reached the MRO office on Tuesday at around 10.30 am after an invitation from officials of Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL), who sought to convince them to proceed with land acquisition for the Gandhi Sarovar Project linked with the Musi Riverfront Development Project.

MRDCL officials also invited three to four representatives of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) from colonies whose properties will be affected along the Musi River as part of land acquisition for the project.

The colonies whose residents went to the Gandipet MRO office included Shivpuri, Dattatreya Colony, Sri Vigneshwara Colony, Dream Homes, Karywell Homes, PG Colony, Vishal Nagar and Sairam Nagar.

Trouble began when MRDCL officials and the Gandipet MRO put pressure on residents to part with their properties for Musi Riverfront Project. The Telangana government said it was ready to pay suitable land compensation, but residents opposed the move and said they were not willing to give up their properties.

Officials, who sensed the intensity of the protest, said they had come to hear residents’ pleas and receive objections.
