Mahabubnagar: Tension prevailed at Rajapet village in Wanaparthy district after paddy farmers staged a protest and burnt their paddy sacks over the inordinate delay in procurement of their stocks on Tuesday.

The farmers charged that it has been nearly 45 days and officials were procuring the stocks, citing different reasons. Irked over the officials apathy, the farmers dumped the paddy sacks on the road and burnt them, triggering tension in the village.

After learning about the incident, police rushed to the spot and tried to convince the farmers to give up their protest. The farmers informed the police that since many days they had been waiting for procurement of their stocks. Yet, the officials were not initiating any measures to purchase the stocks.

As the police tried to clear the paddy sacks, the farmers warned that they would douse themselves with petrol. They demanded the government to immediately procure their stocks.
