Sangareddy: Differences within the Congress party came to the fore when Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy, who joined the Congress after winning the election on a BRS ticket, visited IDA Bollaram to inaugurate some road works in the municipality on Tuesday.
Accusing Mahipal Reddy and officials of denying proper recognition to other Congress leaders, party workers led by town president Jaipal Reddy raised ‘MLA down, down’ slogans. The Congress leaders urged Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha to visit the municipality to inaugurate the works.
Interestingly, the MLA found some support from BRS leader Kolanu Bal Reddy, husband of the municipal chairperson Kolanu Roja Reddy, while the Congress cadre raised slogans against him. Bal Reddy and the Congress leaders indulged in a war of words when Mahipal Reddy abruptly ended his visit after inaugurating the road works.
The incident has once again exposed the cracks within the Congress, with Mahipal Reddy still not being accepted by the party workers and he himself not moving closely with the party leaders in the constituency.
