Hyderabad: Private junior colleges are paying a heavy price for any lapses in their institutions. The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) has imposed more than Rs 1 crore in penalties, including for submitting fake Fire No Objection Certificates (NOC) on errant private colleges in just over a month.

In the recent case, the Board has imposed a fine of Rs 8 lakh on each of the 45 private junior colleges, which allegedly submitted fake Fire NOCs of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) for obtaining affiliation for the academic year 2026-27.

This issue came into limelight following an individual raising a complaint with the HYDRAA, stating that a private junior college submitted a forged Fire NOC. Police cases have already been booked against the managements.

In addition, the Board has also levied hefty penalties ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh on more than 95 private junior colleges for flouting norms. The penalties have been imposed after multiple inspections by the Board’s task force teams found violations, including unauthorised admissions and illegal college operations.

The colleges have also been penalised for a dearth of faculty members, shortage of laboratories and libraries that are required for obtaining the affiliation. The Board decided to continue with inspections through task force teams to regulate the junior college managements and ensure they comply with norms.

“We have withheld affiliation of some private junior colleges that failed to pay the penalties that were previously imposed on them. The Board’s task force teams will continue with inspections,” said Abhilasha Abhinav, Secretary, TG BIE.
