TG EAPCET 2025 likely to be rescheduled to April, a month earlier than usual
The move is part of a strategy to address the disruption caused to the academic calendars of all the professional courses by the Covid-19 pandemic in the past
Hyderabad: If the plans of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) come to fruition, students will be taking the Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET) in the month of April, a month earlier than usual.
The Council is drawing up plans to advance schedules for the Common Entrance Tests (CETs) held for admissions into various professional programmes in the State. As per the plan, the EAPCET notification is expected in the month of February, 2025, followed by the entrance test in April with an aim of commencing the classes by July.
The move is part of a strategy to address the disruption caused to the academic calendars of all the professional courses by the Covid-19 pandemic in the past. The schedules, which got impacted due to the pandemic, still have not got back on track.
While the TG EAPCET 2024 notification was issued on February 21 with exams held from May 7 to 11, the admissions for the pharmacy, biotechnology and agriculture, and allied branches were underway.
However, the success of this move depends on several factors, including affiliation by the universities concerned. The All India Council for Technical Education, responsible for approving technical colleges, finalise its permissions every year by June 30.
Following this, the universities, particularly the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) – Hyderabad forms the fact-finding committees to inspect colleges before granting affiliation for the fresh academic year. The universities often finalise the affiliation in July as admission counselling begins.
Apart from TG EAPCET, the Council intends to advance the ECET, ICET, PGECET and LAWCET schedules as well.
“There is a need to put the academic calendars that got disrupted due to Covid-19 back on track. There is a plan to advance all the CETs with TG EAPCET in April, a month earlier than usual with an aim to begin engineering class work in July,” said a senior official.
