Hyderabad: Government and local body teachers with at least 10 years of experience fared worse than fresh teaching graduates in the Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TG TET) June 2026 results declared here on Monday.
While 45.66 per cent of regular DEd and BEd candidates qualified in the test, only 37.29 per cent of in-service teachers cleared the TET, which was conducted across the State between June 16 and 22.
As per the results declared by School Education Director Dr E Naveen Nicolas, only 8,809 out of 23,623 in-service teachers who appeared for the TET qualified. Similarly, 91,405 other candidates appeared and 41,735 cleared the test. Results were hosted on the website https://tgtet.aptonline.in/.
Other candidates outperformed in-service teachers in both Paper I and Paper II, which are conducted to determine teaching eligibility for Classes I to V and Classes VI to VIII, respectively. The 6,251 in-service teachers recorded a qualifying percentage of 52.57 in Paper I, while 29,878 other candidates registered a qualifying percentage of 67.96.
In Paper II (Mathematics and Science), 41.44 per cent of regular candidates qualified, compared with 38.27 per cent of in-service teachers. In Paper II (Social Studies), the pass percentage stood at 24.05 per cent for in-service teachers and 26.30 per cent for regular candidates. Overall, 1,15,028 candidates, including in-service teachers and others, appeared and 50,544 (43.94 per cent) qualified.
One of the main reasons for the poor success rate among in-service teachers in Paper II is attributed to the syllabus and question paper pattern. Language teachers must also choose either Mathematics and Science or Social Studies.
In addition, subject teachers, such as biological science teachers, have to answer questions from Mathematics, Physical Science and Biological Science. While the questions are based on the syllabus for Classes VI to VIII, the difficulty level extends up to Class XII.
With fewer questions from their own subject or language, the question paper pattern and syllabus resulted in a low qualifying percentage, according to teachers.
With the Supreme Court directing all in-service teachers to qualify the TET by August 2028, Dr E Naveen Nicolas said a total of four TET examinations would be conducted annually, including two special TETs for in-service teachers. A fresh notification for in-service teachers will be released on July 21, and the examinations will be conducted from September 7 to 9.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had mandated that all in-service teachers, except those with less than five years of service, clear the TET by August 2027, which was later extended by a year, to retain their jobs. Teachers with less than five years of service must pass the TET to become eligible for promotion.
