Hyderabad: Film star Vijay Deverakonda will be the brand ambassador for the inaugural TG20 League championship to be held from June 21, according to Hyderabad Cricket Association Secretary M Jeevan Reddy.
“The League will feature 32 matches spread over 21 days, featuring eight franchises, and will be held on the lines of the high-profile IPL,” the HCA official said on Tuesday. “There will be no Impact Player rule in the TG20 League,” he added.
Mr Jeevan Reddy also informed that Sreenidhi University will be the title sponsor, while GMR and Telangana Tourism are the co-sponsors of the League.
Mr Agam Rao, chairman of the TG20 Governing Council, said that for most of the League there would be two matches daily, one starting at 2.15 pm and the second at 7.30 pm, and all matches would be telecast live on JioStar.
“The top four teams will play in the play-offs, with the final scheduled on July 12,” he said. “The tickets will be available at the counters at the stadium and also on an online app, whose details will be released soon,” he said.
Mr Rao said that the fact that big names like Tilak Varma and Mohd Siraj were playing in the TG20 was proof that it had the approval of the BCCI.
“In fact, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit teams will be operational throughout the league,” he said.
The winners of the TG20 League will get Rs 1 crore, the runners-up Rs 50 lakh and the third and fourth-placed teams Rs 25 lakh each, the Governing Council chairman said.
“There will be a nominal gate fee of Rs 50 and Rs 100 for different categories for fans to watch the matches. The inaugural ceremony will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal), with popular music director Thaman performing a live concert,” Mr Rao said.
All the eight franchise owners who were present at the briefing said they were in the League to promote young talent in the districts and not to make money.
The inaugural match will feature Palauru Strikers and Anvita Khammam Aces on June 21.
