TGCHE to revamp UG and PG syllabus in Telangana
The Telangana Council of Higher Education has decided to revamp UG and PG syllabi and form subject-wise committees led by Vice Chancellors. The council also plans to expand apprenticeship-embedded courses and seek industry inputs to make education more skill-oriented.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has decided to revamp the UG and PG syllabus. Accordingly, it will shortly constitute subject-wise committees headed by Vice Chancellors.
This decision was made during the TGCHE Executive Council meeting chaired by TGCHE Chairman Prof V Balakista Reddy here on Tuesday. While approving the first-year UG revamped syllabus, the EC gave its nod for revising the second and third-year UG and PG syllabi.
To ensure the syllabus is industry-oriented and to equip students with necessary skills, it has been decided to seek suggestions from research institutions such as CCMB, IITs, IICT and DRDO.
Furthermore, apprenticeship-embedded courses, which allow students to earn while they learn, will be expanded to all government degree colleges with NAAC accreditation in the forthcoming academic year. Presently, these courses are being offered in 23 colleges, with 1,071 student enrolment. In addition, the TGCHE and universities have decided to bear the skill development registration fee of Rs 5000 for students who enrol in apprenticeship-embedded courses.
During the meeting, the universities were asked to handhold the polytechnic colleges under their jurisdiction. The varsities were also asked to provide an opportunity for polytechnics to utilise their laboratories and technological resources.
The issue of filling up posts in the TGCHE was also discussed. However, since the file is with the Chief Minister, it was decided to proceed only after formal approval.
Education Department Secretary Dr Yogita Rana, TGCHE Vice-Chairman-I Prof E Purushottam and Vice Chairman-II Prof SK Mahmood, Commissioner of Collegiate Education A Sridevasena, several university Vice-Chancellors, among other officials, participated.
