HYDERABAD: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has busted a fraudulent call centre network operating from Delhi and apprehended 21 Telugu-speaking women telecallers and a bank account holder in connection with a loan fraud targeting victims in Telangana.

The cybercrime network was allegedly operating from three call centres at Shiva Market in Delhi for nearly 18 months. The three alleged organisers, including Lalith Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Anil, all natives of Bihar, are absconding, according to the TGCSB.

The arrested persons include three team leaders, 18 telecallers and a bank account holder. The women, aged between 20 and 42, were allegedly recruited for their fluency in Telugu and used to gain the confidence of victims. Several of them were natives of Telangana and had been residing in Delhi.

According to police, the telecallers impersonated representatives of Bajaj Finance and contacted unsuspecting people in Telangana, offering attractive loan approvals.

“They followed a scripted process and persuaded victims to pay money towards loan processing, verification, documentation, insurance and other fabricated charges. After receiving the payments, the callers either stopped communicating with victims or demanded additional amounts on the pretext of completing the loan process,” said the officials.

In some cases, those who sought refunds or questioned the transactions were allegedly threatened with legal action, reputational damage and misuse of their personal information and identity documents.

The TGCSB seized 23 mobile phones and two bank passbooks during the raids. Investigators have so far established links to 22 cybercrime cases reported across Telangana and are probing the network further.
