TGSAFE, police inspect 20 eateries in Kukatpally; violations found

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs, along with police, inspected 20 food establishments in Kukatpally during a special drive. Officials found serious violations including spoiled meat, pest infestations and unhygienic conditions, leading to suspension of licences and closure of one hostel.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE), along with police personnel, inspected 20 restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, hostels, messes and a food manufacturing unit in Kukatpally as part of a special food safety drive.

Officials found several violations, including spoiled meat and vegetables, cockroaches, houseflies and rodent infestations, unhygienic premises, expired food items and improper maintenance of refrigerators. In some establishments, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was not properly segregated and food handlers were found maintaining poor hygiene.

The GVK New Luxury PG Men’s Hostel, which was operating without an FSSAI licence or registration, was closed for violating food safety norms.

The FSSAI license of five establishments, including Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel and Hotel Sitara Grand, have been suspended, and they were directed to stop operations.

Improvement notices will be issued to six establishments, including Gummadi Foods, KS Bakers, Lakshmi Vengamamba Hostel and Mehfil Restaurant. Show-cause notices will be served on Paradise Food Court, Chaitanya Food Court, Bhulakshmi Mess and Godavari Mithai.
