TGSCB busts 48 cyber criminals linked to 2,194 cases nationwide, Rs 8.16 cr lost

Shikha Goel, Director of TGSCB, stated that the suspects were involved in multiple frauds, including business investment scams, job frauds, digital arrest scams, and courier scams. Those arrested include 38 mule account holders and 10 agents who recruited them to open bank accounts and facilitate cyber frauds in exchange for commissions.

Hyderabad: In a major operation, the Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGSCB) sleuths caught 48 alleged cyber criminals who were involved 508 cases in Telangana and 2194 cases nationwide with the quantum of amount lost pegged at Rs. 8.16 crores.

The police seized 53 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 5 CPUs, 2 monitors, 18 bank passbooks, 16 cheque books, 10 ATM cards and a bike from them.

Shikha Goel, Director, TGSCB said the suspects were involved in various frauds such as business investment, job frauds, digital arrests, courier scams etc. Among those arrested are 38 mule account holders and remaining 10 are agents who lured them into opening the bank accounts and facilitating the cyber frauds in exchange for a commission.

“All the mule account holders are involved in multiple cases across the country. They opened the bank accounts fully aware of the fact that it would be used for cyber frauds,” said the official.

All the suspects who were arrested are from different places in Telangana including Hyderabad. The police appealed to the public not handover bank accounts to the cyber fraudsters.
