TGSRTC plans new bus terminal at Chilakalguda
TGSRTC is exploring a land swap with South Central Railway to build a new bus terminal at Chilakalguda, aimed at easing congestion at Secunderabad Railway Station and Rathifile Bus Station.
Hyderabad: Amid rising commuter demand, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is reportedly checking out possibilities to develop a new bus terminal at Chilakalguda in Secunderabad, amidst other infrastructure expansion projects.
The proposed facility is expected to decongest the busy Secunderabad Railway Station and Rathifile bus station.
Recently, proposals were made with regard to part of a land exchange between TGSRTC and South Central Railway (SCR). As part of the plan, the railway authorities have sought around five acres of RTC land adjoining the Kacheguda bus depot to facilitate the expansion and modernisation of Kacheguda Railway Station, which currently handles more than 70 train services and over 40,000 passengers every day.
In return, TGSRTC has reportedly requested acquiring about five acres of railway land at Chilakalguda for infrastructure expansion. It is learnt that the corporation is also examining plans to utilise the remaining land at the Kacheguda depot for a new depot to meet future operational requirements.
TGSRTC sources said while nothing concrete has developed until now, among others, there is a possibility of a terminal to be built in Chilakalguda, which would help redistribute bus operations currently concentrated around Secunderabad Railway Station and Rathifile bus station, where heavy traffic congestion is a long-standing problem.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that discussions are also underway over an NOC from TGSRTC for the construction of a skywalk as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station. It is expected to provide a seamless pedestrian link between the Secunderabad East Metro Station and the railway station.
