Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), as part of its plan to expand its public transport infrastructure, is checking possibilities to develop bus terminals in the city’s suburbs.
Authorities are reportedly checking the possibility of developing terminals, including at the already announced Gajularamaram, Shamshabad, LB Nagar and Ghatkesar, with modern passenger amenities, waiting halls and parking facilities.
The State government is learnt to have also been considering around 100 acres at Gajularamaram and 150 acres around Shamshabad for the proposed terminals. The LB Nagar and Ghatkesar terminals will be planned based on passenger demand.
The terminals are also expected to serve as hubs for last-mile connectivity, with city buses, Metro Rail and MMTS services being coordinated to ferry passengers into different parts of Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the government plans to introduce 2,200 new electric buses in the coming days, which will connect the proposed terminals with major parts of the city.
Further, as per the government’s plan, interstate buses from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, as well as buses from other Telangana districts, would be restricted from entering the core city and instead operate from the peripheral terminals.
Also, the government is learnt to have been examining the possibility of allowing private buses to operate from these terminals by collecting user charges as per regulations.
