Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), which had hired bus drivers through outsourcing, is now planning to hire conductors the same way, on a temporary basis.
It has decided to recruit about 800 conductors through outsourcing in Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Warangal regions. A few months ago, 1,000 drivers were recruited on outsourcing and they are on duty after completing their training.
As per estimates, in view of the increase in occupancy and demand, the RTC currently requires at least 2,000 bus conductors. Of the regular conductors, about 500 are working in RTC cargo services, RTC petrol pumps and other affiliated departments. Moreover, around 1,200 conductors have retired from service in the last one year, resulting in a shortage.
It is learnt that as there are not enough conductors, the existing ones are being given additional duties, causing issues in the operations and the personnel. Though the RTC gives additional payment, the staff say it is impacting their health.
Earlier, the RTC management had requested the State government for permission to fill up the vacant posts including driver and conductor. Though the government had given a nod, there has been a delay in the recruitment process.
As months have passed, the number of vacancies in RTC has been increasing and problems due to staff crunch too. Due to this, the corporation has now decided to hire outsourcing employees on a temporary basis until the regular employees are recruited.
