Hyderabad: A video, which is getting its fair share of views on social media, at present is of a specific stunt from the 1993 Hollywood movie ‘Cliffhanger,’ where Sylvester Stallon’s character is sliding between two planes on a cable at 15,000 feet.

What so exceptional about it, as all action movies try to outdo one another in such stunts? The answer is, it is not a CGI (computer-generated imagery) stunt, but done by a human. This particular one got listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive aerial stunt ever. And, the stunt man, Simon Crane, who did it, was paid 1 million dollars by the Hollywood star himself out of his own pocket.

Why Stallon gave money to Simon?

The company covering the movie refused to sanction insurance money for Simon Crane for putting his life in danger. This made Stallon reportedly reduce his salary by a million and give it to Simon Crane as a ‘thank-you’ for his death-defying stunt.

Zip-lining between two planes at 15,000 feet in the air is as dangerous as it sounds. The stunt man could have been killed while doing it. Fortunately, he survived to tell his story and reap the rewards.

In fact, filming such a stunt was against the law in England, so the movie crew had to move back to the United States to shoot it.

 About Cliffhanger

Cliffhanger is a big-budget extravaganza with a lot of stunts and special effects, starring Sylvester Stallone as a mountain climber and a rescuer, who is pitted against a group of criminals who have lost their 100 million dollars during a plane crash in the Rocky Mountains.

If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you should check out this costliest stunt ever done.
