These two Telangana villages keeping Covid at bay with ‘discipline’
Gollapalli, a village in Devaruppula mandal of Jangaon district and Chainpaka of Chityal mandal in Bhupalpalli district, have stood their ground and successfully kept the virus at bay
Warangal: Discipline is a major weapon in the arsenal in the war against Covid-19, and two villages in erstwhile Warangal district have proved that in ample measure. Even as the second wave of the pandemic engulfed not just urban areas but also rural pockets, some of them remote, Gollapalli, a village in Devaruppula mandal of Jangaon district and Chainpaka of Chityal mandal in Bhupalpalli district, have stood their ground and successfully kept the virus at bay.
With a population of 1,000, Gollapalli has not reported even a single Covid case in the ongoing second wave. The village, which secured the national Nirmal Grameen Puraskar 10 years ago for maintaining cleanliness, continues to ensure cleanliness which helped the residents to protect themselves from Covid.
“In the first wave, only four people tested positive for Covid. Keeping this in mind, our villagers are strictly following the Covid protocol. Due to this, no positive case has been reported in the past four months,” sarpanch Koneti Subhashini told ‘Telangana Today’. The Gram Panchayat urged the villagers to avoid gatherings by postponing marriages and other functions. “We also advised the villagers not to invite relatives or friends till the pandemic subsides,” she added.
Batta Premalatha, an ASHA worker from the village, said they conducted a survey to identify Covid suspects in the village and found no one with symptoms. “Due to this, not a single positive case was reported in Gollapalli village,” she added.
Meanwhile, Chainpaka village in Bhupalpalli district, with a population of about 450, has also been Covid-free so far. “Though two residents of the village developed fever, they tested negative for the Covid-19,” said G Shashidhar Reddy, a villager. He added that the people of Chainpaka have been strictly following the Covid-19 protocol. “Whenever our villagers meet others, they wear masks and maintain physical distance,” he added. The Gram Panchayat’s sanitation staff are regularly spraying sodium hypochlorite in the village.
