Hyderabad: Thieves broke into Sri Ganesh Temple near Secunderabad Railway Station and decamped with Rs 80,000 cash from the Hundi in the early hours of Friday.
According to the Gopalpuram police, it is suspected that after 3 am, the thieves entered the compound and armed with tools, sneaked into the temple from the side door.
“They broke open the lock of Hundi and stole cash. They did not take any other ornaments or valuables,” police said, adding that temple authorities who noticed the Hundi damaged and cash missing in the morning alerted the cops. “We suspect it to be the work of local gangs,” police said, adding that footage from surveillance cameras was being examined.
Based on a complaint from the temple authorities, a case was booked and is being investigated.
