Hyderabad: Thieves made a futile attempt to loot a branch of Muthoot Finance Limited at Gandimaisamma in Dundigal here in the wee hours of Thursday. They damaged the wall and tried to sneak into the strong room, but fled after the alarm went off, police said.

According to the police, it is suspected that two persons, armed with tools, entered the branch office, which had no security guard after 1 am. Using the tools they had with them, they damaged the wall and drilled a hole into it.

“They drilled a hole, which was enough for a person to crawl into the office. When they were trying to widen the hole, suddenly the alarm went off and they had to leave the place,” police said.

The staff who came in the morning found the shutter damaged and informed their authorities and the police. The CLUES team and Dog Squad visited the spot and collected samples. The Dundigal police are examining footage from surveillance cameras.
