HYDERABAD: Telangana recorded its third straight win when it outplayed Andhra Pradesh 8-2 in the Pool A match of the 15th Hockey India Senior national championship for men at Jhansi on Wednesday.
The star performer for Telangana was PR Aiyappa, who found the target four times.
T Venkatesh scored the first goal in the third minute, and within eight minutes, PR Aiyappa, Rohit Singh and Ram Kumar Vetti were on target once each.
For Andhra, Kumar Ragipati Sandeep reduced the margin in the 13th minute only to see Telangana’s Aiyappa strike back strongly, scoring two goals in the 13th and 20th minutes.
Though Venu Gorrela Gopal scored the second goal for Andhra, Telangana was too good with Aiyappa and Venkatesh scoring one goal each to complete the tally for the winners.
The result: Telangana beat Andhra Pradesh 8-2.
