Photographs of the Moon are always fascinating. But this time, it is a “once-in-a-lifetime” picture of a Moon looking like Saturn.
Captured at a dawn on Christmas Eve two years ago – by a photographer called Francisco Sojuel, from Guatemala – the stunning picture shows the Moon shining brightly with a thin dusting of cloud cutting across it. And thus, a quick glance of the picture would make you think the Moon looks like Saturn.
Sojuel said that the illusion is actually caused by something called a cirrostratus cloud, which is made up of ice crystals.
“From afar you may wonder, ‘Is that an asteroid ring around the moon?’. Well, the disguise of this waning moon is actually a thin cirrostratus cloud. The way the cloud interacts with the moon creates a unique display of beauty that steals protagonism from the surrounding stars,” Sojuel wrote on his Instagram page.
The stunning picture was clicked after a six-hour hike up the Guatemalan volcano Acatenango, two days before a solar eclipse, Sojuel shares further.
The viral photo now has more than 37,533 likes and hundreds of comments. Netizens also find the capture quite surprising. One user said, “I love this photo!” Another wrote, “Fantastic.”
