Hyderabad: Amid the online trend of education, a government school teacher in Puttapalli village of Karimnagar district is taking education to the doorstep of children. The secondary teacher, Bhagyalakshmi, identified points where children usually are at leisure, and is using the walls there as blackboards.
She came up with the initiative after realising that many students were forgetting what they were taught after being away from the classroom for several months.
“The internet and online classes are problematic here. I had to do something. I thought of implementing many ideas, but this seemed more effective. With the permission of the homeowners, I started turning walls as boards. Now, if elders in the village see children running around, they urge them to get the daily lessons,” the teacher says.
The initiative has been received positively by the locals and they’re lauding the teacher for ensuring that education remained accessible even during Covid times.
Almost all the walls on the streets are now painted with lessons. Every day, students sit in front of the walls and attend class unfailingly.
