Hyderabad: Have you ever seen a tree laughing on being touched, tickled or caressed? Yes, you heard it right. A tree named Gudgudi or Laughing tree feels giggling by human touch and moves its branches in excitement. There are two such trees in Kaladhungi forest, Uttarakhand.

The unusual behaviour of this tree has caught the attention of researchers and tourists.

According to a professor of Botany at Kumaon University in Nainital, the botanical name of such a tree is Randia dumetorum. Usually, they are found at a height of 300 to 1300 metres.

Corbett Village Development Committee has connected the two trees to tourism. It even appointed guides, who till date, take tourists to the forest to show them ‘the laughing trees’.
