Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (THRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the recent incident in which an elderly man was swept away in a stormwater drain at Miyapur during heavy rains.

Acting on reports, the Commission registered a case and directed key government departments and civic agencies to submit detailed reports on the circumstances leading to the incident, including information on the sequence of events, safety measures in place, rescue efforts and steps taken to prevent similar tragedies.

The Commission has sought responses from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), HYDRAA, the State Disaster Response and Fire Services authorities, and other departments concerned.

Officials have been asked to explain whether adequate precautions were taken at vulnerable locations during the rains and what measures are being implemented to improve public safety.
