Khammam: The Khanapuram Haveli police arrested three persons for alleged encroachment on Bhoodan and government lands in Velugumatla revenue area in Khammam urban mandal.

In a statement, the Inspector of Police said the accused, Talluri Krishna and Mankidi Linga Raju of Vinoba Navodaya Colony, along with Mudiga Ramulu of Mulagudem in Khammam urban mandal, were arrested on Wednesday. The accused formed a gang and falsely claimed that they were members of the OPDR Bhoodan Committee and collected Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1 lakh each from innocent people, promising them house plots in Bhoodan lands.

Subsequently, they illegally occupied Bhoodan lands, government lands and private patta lands and built sheds. They cheated some innocent people by offering to sell the lands. On February 7, the accused, along with the colony residents, illegally entered the forest land of compartment No. 40 under Velugumatla revenue limits.

They obstructed and attacked Forest officials while they were carrying out fencing work to fix the borders of the lands. Investigation is ongoing in these cases. If any person was cheated in this case, they should file a complaint with the police, the Inspector said.
