New Delhi: Three people were arrested on Tuesday for shooting a 34-year-old man dead following a parking dispute in Delhi’s Preet Vihar a day earlier, officials said. A heated argument broke out between the victims, Pankaj Nayyar, his brother, Paras, and Gaurav Sharma over the parking.

During the argument, Gaurav Sharma allegedly opened fire and shot Pankaj Nayyar in the chest, officials stated. The altercation occurred at around 2.20 a.m. on Monday. Following the shooting, Nayyar was rushed to a nearby private hospital; however, the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.

An FIR under charges of murder (BNS Section 103(1)), voluntarily causing hurt (Section 115(2)), and acts done with common intention (Section 3(5)), along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, was registered against Gaurav Sharma, police said.

Meanwhile, the Preet Vihar Police have taken custody of Pankaj’s body and sent it to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Considering the gravity of the case, three dedicated teams of East District Police comprising local staff of PS Preet Vihar, Special Staff, and Anti Snatching & Burglary Cell (ASB), East District were constituted under the supervision of the undersigned.

“All teams were tasked with tracing and apprehending the accused persons at the earliest. Intensive CCTV analysis, technical surveillance, and extensive field enquiries were carried out. Footage from cameras installed in and around the place of occurrence was meticulously examined, and local intelligence was actively developed,” officials said.

They said that the suspects were identified on the basis of sustained technical analysis, CCTV evidence, and intelligence inputs.

“Acting on specific information, accused Gaurav Sharma (42 years), resident of Preet Vihar, who fired at the deceased, has been arrested. His associate Sunil Sharma (41 years) and his stepson Siddharth have also been apprehended,” police said. Further details are awaited.
