Khammam: The cybercrime police here have arrested three persons in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh for allegedly defrauding a retired employee of about Rs 59 lakh, Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt said on Friday.
The cybercriminals had threatened the resident of Netaji Nagar in Khammam urban mandal, claiming he would be arrested for involvement in illegal activities, job frauds, and money laundering carried out using his SIM cards and Aadhaar card.
The incident occurred in April this year. The accused, posing as Bengaluru Police officials, forced the victim to transfer the money to avoid ‘digital arrest’. During the investigation, police found that one of the accused, D Yerry Swamy, had received Rs 9 lakh in his account and took him into custody.
During interrogation, Yerry Swamy confessed to the police that he, along with E Lakshma Naik and K Narayana Reddy, had committed the fraud. Based on his confession, the other two were also arrested from Anantapur. All three were produced before the Khammam cybercrime court and remanded to judicial custody, the CP said.
Sunil Dutt appreciated Cybercrime DSP T Lakshminarayana, Inspector Yasin Ali, Sub-Inspectors Ranjith Kumar and Vijay Kumar, and the Cybercrime Police Station staff for their efforts in the investigation and arrests.
