Hyderabad: The Chandrayangutta police took into custody three persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of businessman Hamed Zubaidi reported on Wednesday afternoon.
Zubaidi was killed in full public view by three persons on the Hashamabad road in Chandrayangutta when he was reportedly going to the police station to lodge a complaint. The three persons attacked him with knives and stones resulting in his death.
Police sources said that in 2019, one of the three persons involved in the murder was caught by Customs officials at the Hyderabad Airport while attempting to smuggle gold. A kilogram of gold was seized along with his passport. Zubaidi had helped him then to obtain bail and also took care of other expenses. However, there was some issue between them over getting the passport from the court, which had snowballed into arguments.
On Wednesday, Zubaidi had approached the Chandrayangutta police in the afternoon and lodged a complaint against the assailants. However, the police allegedly did not respond properly and he left the police station. He was again on his way to the police station in connection with the complaint when he was attacked and killed.
The response of the police when Zubaidi had first approached them came under criticism, with City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar placing Chandrayangutta sub inspector S Venkatesh under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty.
