Three held for cheating people with fake 2-BHK housing scheme

Alwal Police arrested three persons for allegedly duping nearly 100 families by issuing fake double-bedroom housing allotment certificates. The accused collected money promising government houses, while police seized fake documents and said the main accused remains absconding.

Hyderabad: Alwal Police have arrested three persons for allegedly cheating nearly 100 economically weaker families by promising allotments under the State government’s double-bedroom housing scheme and issuing forged allotment certificates.

The police arrested T Gopinath Pushpalatha, her son T Gopinath Vishal, and Mahender Singh, who runs a photocopying centre in Trimulgherry. Police said the trio played a key role in preparing and printing forged allotment documents.

According to the police, the suspects collected between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh from each victim, claiming they could secure government housing through official contacts. The victims were allegedly given fake allotment certificates and waited for nearly three years before discovering the fraud.

A total of 79 fake 2-BHK allotment certificates and three mobile phones were seized from the accused. The arrested persons have been remanded to judicial custody. Police said the alleged mastermind, Jayaraj Gangadharan, along with three other suspects, are absconding and efforts are on to nab them.
