Hyderabad: The Bhongir police raided a shop and arrested three persons on charges of illegally selling banned gutkha and other tobacco products at Bhongir Town here on Monday. Police seized tobacco material worth Rs 20 lakh from them.

The suspects had procured gutkha and tobacco products from Bidar in Karnataka and sold it at higher rates to customers in Hyderabad. The arrested persons were K Suresh from Peerzadiguda, K Rahul from Boduppal and P Manaram from Bhongir Town. One suspect, Abbu from Bidar, was absconding.


According to the police, Suresh came into contact with Abbu , a gutkha and tobacco products supplier from Bidar and purchased huge quantities of the banned products and sold it to customers in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda.

“They also took a warehouse on rent in Peerzadiguda to store a huge quantity of the banned products,” police said.
