Hyderabad: In a major catch in recent times, the Shamshabad Police Special Operations Team along with the Rajendranagar police busted a narcotic drugs racket being operated from Odisha to Maharashtra via Hyderabad and arrested three peddlers here on Saturday. Police seized 560 kilos of marijuana, a truck, a car and mobile phones, altogether worth Rs 1.3 crore from them.

The arrested persons were Saleem Ullah alias Raju (38), a construction worker, Shaik Rehan (25), a painter and Shaik Waseem (38), a driver, all three residents of Amravathi in Maharashtra. The absconding persons were Naushad, the main receiver and Santhosh, a supplier.

According to the police, the gang was smuggling marijuana from Chitrakonda agency area of Odisha to Maharashtra via Hyderabad.

“Naushad is the main organizer and they purchased the drug for Rs 1,250 per kg to sell it at Rs 20,000 per kg,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said.

Police said Naushad had contacted Santhosh and asked him to arrange 1,000 kg of dry marijuana and paid Rs 2 lakh as advance. The latter arranged 560 kg and contacted Iqbal in Hyderabad to take it to Amravathi.

“On Friday, they went to Chitrakonda agency area and parked the truck loaded with three tons of potato at a remote place in the forest and informed Santhosh. A total of 280 bags, altogether weighing about 560 kgs was concealed under this and they left with the truck on the same evening for Amravathi via Hyderabad.

Following a tip-off, the police caught the truck at PDP Crossroads near Himayat Sagar toll gate road.
