Siddipet: Three persons met with a watery grave in a freak accident when a car plunged into an open well at Chimnapur in Dubbak mandal on Wednesday. The deceased include a youngster and his mother who were in the car and a diver who drowned in the process of rescue operation.

Since the well was brimming with water, the Disaster Response and Fire Services Department, in coordination with other departments and locals, took up the rescue operation to retrieve the car from the well.

Besides pumping out the water, the officials also roped in massive cranes to pull out the car. The officials identified the persons travelling in the car as Akula Prasanth (26) and his mother Bagyalakshmi (50), residents of Nandgaon village in Nizampet mandal of Medak district. Prasanth lost control over the wheels and the car veered off the road and plunged into the roadside well.

The rescue operation took a tragic turn when Narasimhulu, a diver, drowned while trying to retrieve the car. Since the open well was brimming with water, the officials of Disaster Response and Fire Services sought the services of some local divers. Narasimhulu, a resident of Enugurthy in Dubbak mandal, who dove into the well, spotted the vehicle and tried to tie it with a rope to pull it out. Tragically, Narasimhulu’s leg got stuck in the car and he could not come out of the water. He died on the spot. The rescue operation is still on to retrieve the car.
