Three Maoist militia members arrested in Kothagudem
During interrogation, the trio revealed their identity and confessed that they were working as militia members for the banned Maoist party for the last three years
Kothagudem: As the Maoists gearing up to celebrate People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) Week from Dec 2 to 8, the police were on high alert in view and increased combing operations in the district forests.
The police have also intensified vehicle inspections at main junctions and patrolling on main roads. As part of the vehicle inspections at Pedda Midisileru in Cherla mandal three Maoist militia members were arrested.
Cherla Inspector of Police (CI), B Ashok informed the media on Monday that during vehicle inspections by Special Party Police and CRPF 141 Battalion personnel three persons who tried to run away on seeing the police were taken into custody.
During interrogation, the trio revealed their identity and confessed that they were working as militia members for the banned Maoist party for the last three years and providing logistics to Maoist leaders Aruna, Rajitha and Madhu and militia leader Balu.
The arrested were identified as Vetti Bhimaraju of Kristapurampadu, Sunnam Nageswar Rao of and Velkam Pentaayya of Bhattinapalli in Cherla mandal. They were involved in blasting a landmine at Pedda Midisileru two months back and planting pressure mines at Kaliveru in October, the CI said.
The police seized six booby traps the militia members were carrying with an intention to set them up targetting the police. Pamphlets related to the PLGA Week were also seized from them, Ashok informed.
