Three member automobile theft gang held in Hyderabad
According to the police, the suspects were involved in 19 cases reported at Raidurgam, Madhapur, Kushaiguda, L.B Nagar, KPHB, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, SR Nagar and Gopalapuram police station limits.
Hyderabad: A three member gang of automobile thieves was arrested by the Madhapur police on Friday. The police recovered 19 bikes valued at Rs.28 lakh from them.
The arrested persons were identified as Chavan Kamlesh (20), Kothakonda Vikas Kumar (20) and J Sreekanth (20).
According to the police, the suspects were involved in 19 cases reported at Raidurgam, Madhapur, Kushaiguda, L.B Nagar, KPHB, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, SR Nagar and Gopalapuram police station limits.
Explaining the modus operandi, DCP (Madhapur) M Venkateshwarlu said, Kamlesh and Vikas would move around on a motorcycle and identify bikes and scooters kept at isolated places in colonies. “Kamlesh would go and open the handle lock with a duplicate key or break the handle lock. He would push the vehicle for distance and later Vikas would start the vehicle by joining two wires before speeding away on the stolen bike,” he said.
The vehicles were later sold to Sreekanth, who was also involved in some of the offences, the police added.
The police caught all the three persons during vehicle checking at Ayyappa society at Madhapur when they were moving on a bike which did not have proper number plate. On questioning, they had admitted to stealing vehicles in the city.
