Adilabad: Three members of an inter-State gang who allegedly decamped with large quantities of cigarette packets in Adilabad on Saturday were arrested on Saturday. The booty worth Rs 8 lakh was recovered from a den belonging to them. Two more offenders are absconding. Adilabad DSP Venkateshwar Rao said that the accused were Arif Shaik, Saleem Dagude and Sharafat Ali of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. They were detained when moving suspiciously near the Railway station of Adilabad town.
During the course of interrogations, the three confessed to stealing the packets stored in a warehouse by breaking open shutters. They revealed that they shifted the packets to a secret den situated near Laxmipur check post on the borders of Telangana and Maharashtra.
Venkateshwar Rao stated that efforts were on to nab the remaining two accused. He said that modern technology and CCTV footage helped in detecting the offenders. He commended Task Force Inspector E Chandramouli and his team for nabbing the burglars within 20 days. Three special teams were formed for cracking.
