Hyderabad: The Meerpet police apprehended three juveniles on charges of extortion at Nandanavanam here on Friday. Officials seized a dummy pistol and a mobile phone, all worth Rs 25,000 from them.
Police said they were involved in eight cases so far. The juveniles, all in their early teens, were close friends and residents of Nandanavanam in Meerpet. Two of them were earlier arrested for burglaries in Meerpet and sent to an observation home.
“After coming out of the observation home, they met the third juvenile and colluded to commit offences including extortions,” an official said adding that the three targeted pedestrians and motorists in the night. They threatened the victims by brandishing the dummy pistol and extorted cash from them. They were recently involved in an extortion case in Meerpet. After a complaint, a case was booked and they were identified and nabbed.
They were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent them to the observation home.
