Khammam: A case of a three-month-old baby girl being sold has come to light in Kothagudem.

According to sources, a man called Shiva of Laxmidevipally mandal was in a live-in relationship with a woman, who had a 14-year-old daughter. Shiva and the woman recently had a girl child. It was said that a person from Khammam, Venkateswarlu and his wife, who were childless approached Shiva through a mediator for adopting the child. A month ago, the Khammam couple adopted the child allegedly paying some money to Shiva and the child’s mother.

When the issue came to the notice of the ICDS and CWC, officials reportedly summoned the Khammam couple along with Shiva and the woman to the collectorate and counselled them on Wednesday. The officials concerned kept the whole issue under wraps.

Later the child was handed over to her mother. It was learnt that the officials were mulling to lodge a complaint with the local police regarding the illegal adoption. When contacted, Laxmidevipally police said they were yet to receive any complaint in connection with the incident.
