Mancherial: In a tragic incident, three Intermediate students drowned in Pranahita when they tried to swim in the tributary of Godavari river on the outskirts of Alugama village in Kotapalli mandal on Monday. Their bodies are yet to be traced.
Chennur Rural Inspector K Nagaraju said the deceased were identified as Ambala Vamshivardhan (16), Ambala Vijayendra Sai (17) and Gare Rakesh (17), all belonging to Alugama village.
Vamshivardhan, Vijayendra and Rakesh met with the watery grave when they along with another friend tried to take a dip in the river for fun following extended Sankranthi vacation. Their friend, who did not venture to swim in the river, alerted the parents of the three. The parents in turn informed the police who rushed to the spot and pressed expert divers to trace out the bodies.
Nagaraju said the search operation was still on. A pall of gloom descended on the village with tragedy striking two families.
