Hyderabad: Even before the polling to the 12 MLC seats under Local Authorities’ Constituencies is held on December 10, the TRS has secured three MLC seats of Nizamabad and Rangareddy districts unanimously following the scrutiny of nominations on Wednesday. A formal announcement of unanimous election of Nizamabad sitting MLC K Kavitha as well as former Minister Patnam Mahender Reddy and sitting MLC Shambipur Raju from Rangareddy constituency, will be made on November 26.
The biennial elections to 12 MLC seats under Local Authorities’ Constituencies were announced as the term of sitting members of the Telangana Legislative Council, will expire on January 3 next year. While the poll notification was issued on November, the last date for submission of nominations was November 23. The scrutiny of nominations was conducted on Wednesday. As November 26 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations, the returning officers will make a formal announcement of the candidates in the Fray.
Though independent candidates filed nominations from Nizamabad and Rangareddy constituencies, their nominations were rejected by the returning officers concerned in the absence of valid documents and also errors observed during scrutiny of nominations. As only TRS candidates remained in the fray after scrutiny of nominations in Nizamabad and Rangareddy constituencies, the officials are likely to announce their unanimous election on November 26 after withdrawl of nominations.
The TRS is fielding Dande Vittal from Adilabad, L Ramana and T Bhanu Prasad from Karimangar, Kasireddy Narayanareddy and Kuchikulla Damodar Reddy from Mahabubnagar, MC Koti Reddy from Nalgonda, Pochampalli Srinivas Reddy from Warangal, V Yadava Reddy from Medak, Thatha Madhusudhan from Khammam, Shambhipur Raju and Patnam Mahendar Reddy from Rangareddy, and K Kavitha from Nizamabad constituency, for the biennial elections to 12 MLC seats. While seven are sitting MLCs, five others are new candidates.
The TRS leadership is confident of retaining all these 12 MLC seats, considering its strong presence in both Urban and Rural Local Bodies. Not so surprisingly, both the major Opposition parties have stayed away from contesting the elections except for Congress candidates Nirmala Jagga Reddy from Medak and Rayala Nageswar Rao from Khammam filing nominations. Sources said leaders from neither of the Opposition parties were keen to contest the polls, considering the significant number of voters belonging to TRS.
Meanwhile, the TRS cadre broke into celebrations in Nizamabad as election of K Kavitha to the Telangana State Legislative Council became inevitable. This would be her second term as an MLC. She contested the bypolls to the Nizamabad MLC seats last year and won. Legislative Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy and TRS MLAs along with the party cadre celebrated the TRS win by distributing sweets and bursting of crackers at the party headquarters in Nizamabad.
