Nalgonda: The Nalgonda District Legal Metrology Department seized three weighbridges and registered cases against their operators after inspections revealed alleged under-weighing of paddy purchased from farmers.
Acting on complaints that private individuals were using fraudulent weighing practices while purchasing paddy, the department inspected weighbridges in Manimadde and Gurajala villages of Shaligouraram mandal on Monday. The inspections found that the weighbridges were under-reporting grain weight by 10 kg for every 1,000 kg weighed. As a result, farmers were unknowingly handing over excess grain to buyers and suffering financial losses.
Three cases were registered against the respective weighbridges under the Legal Metrology Act. The department also seized all three weighbridges.
The inspections were conducted by Nalgonda District Legal Metrology official Srinivasulu.
Farmers have been advised to remain vigilant when getting their agricultural produce weighed and immediately report suspected under-weighing or other irregularities to the Legal Metrology Department.
