Hyderabad: The Shahalibanda police on Friday arrested three women on charges of stealing gold ornaments from people by diverting their attention at crowded places. Police recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000 from them.
The arrested suspects are Rupa (31), Usha (30) and Uma Hategalli (23), all residents of Mangar Basthi in Tukaramgate.
According to the police, the trio formed into a gang and started targeting women traveling alone in auto-rickshaws, public transportation and crowded places. They diverted their attention and stole their jewelry and other valuables.
They further shared the money from the stolen material among themselves. Recently, they stole gold ornaments from a lecturer posing as co-passengers in an auto-rickshaw. Following her complaint, the Shahalibanda police formed special team and with the help of the footage from the surveillance cameras identified and nabbed them.
